  • 0.25 teaspoon(s) Baking Powder
  • 1.5 teaspoon(s) Baking Soda
  • 1.5 teaspoon(s) Salt
  • 0.75 teaspoon(s) Cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon(s) Cloves
  • 2.3333333333333 cup(s) Gold Medal Flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon(s) Allspice
  • 0.5 cup(s) Shortening
  • 0.5 cup(s) Water
  • 1.5 cup(s) Applesauce
  • 2 Egg(s)
  • 0.33333333333333 cup(s) Walnuts
  • 1 cup(s) Raisins

Directions


Heat oven to 350º. Grease and flour two layer pans, 9×1 ½” or an oblong pan 13×9 ½×2. Measure flour by dip-level-pour method or by sifting. Blend dry ingredients in bowl. Add shortening, water and applesauce. Beat 2 minutes. Medium speed on mixer or 300 vigorous strokes by hand. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl constantly. Add eggs. Beat 2 more minutes, scrapping bowl frequently. Stir in walnuts and raising. Pour into pan. Bake layers 35-40 minutes.
